You Need to Follow this Diet after Gastric Bypass Surgery
These days people often look for surgical procedures to make them skinnier. A gastric bypass surgery is one of those procedures. This surgery makes the stomach smaller, which will help feel full faster. This will cause you to eat less.
It is incredibly important that you follow a very strict diet after gastric bypass surgery. By not doing so, you will cause harm to yourself. Followed are the 4 phases of the gastric bypass diet.
Phase 1: Liquid Diet
Right after the surgery, you will not be allowed to eat anything at all. Your diet will consist only of liquids that are room temperature and semi-solid foods like diet gelatines. You will only be allowed to consume these in very small amounts, so they can see how your stomach reacts.
Phase 2: Puree Diet
After the first phase your diet will start to allow you to eat mashed food, with soft consistency and smooth texture. If no problems occurred, you may be allowed to consume high-protein foods, as long as they are pureed.
Phase 3: Soft, solid diet
When you’ve successfully passed the first 2 phases with no complications, you will be advised to start trying soft, but solid foods. This means you can start eating fresh fruits, cooked vegetables and finely carved meat.
Phase 4: Solid-food diet
After passing phase 3 without any problems, you can start eating solid foods again. Don’t get to eager right away though. Just start building it up slowly and steadily. Find out how much your stomach can tolerate. Chew your foods well and don’t eat too fast, or your stomach won’t be able to keep up.
By not following this diet as outlined, you are more likely to suffer from the side effects of bypass surgery. These side-effects can include dumping syndrome, dehydration and even stomach rupture.
So if you’ve had a gastric bypass, be careful about what you eat. Follow the gastric bypass diet as if God himself commanded you to. Not doing so will only hurt yourself.
